Collection Story

Origin

Tadao is a set of chairs, carver chairs and desk chairs that Eric Jourdan designed for Ligne Roset. Jourdan drew his inspiration from the 1950s and, as with his Okura settee, worked on rewriting a classic model. He evokes George Nelson and the American design of the postwar period, and the design of the central base is particularly characteristic of that era.

Design Language

On the chair, moulded beech multi-ply forms the shell for seat and back, padded with 50 kg/m³ polyurethane foam (3.9 kPa) under 110 g/m² polyester quilting. The bridge is built differently: mechanically-soldered steel, clad in injected polyurethane foam, gives its back and armrest structure; its seat cushion uses high resilience foam at 42 kg/m³ (4.8 kPa), and its back cushion combines an ABS sheet with a 38 kg/m³ foam of the same high resilience (3.6 kPa), the whole covered in 110 g/m² polyester quilting. Twin-needle overstitching is part of the making-up, and each Tadao product page offers 51 covering materials.

Key Pieces

Four bases are listed for the chair (natural beech, anthracite-stained beech, brilliant chromed and black lacquered), and it measures 475 x 530 x 825 mm with a seat height of 480 mm. The carver chair is offered on the same four bases and measures 585 x 625 x 830 mm with a seat height of 495 mm. The desk chair stands either on a central pedestal in brilliant chrome or anthracite metal, or on a base on castors in aluminium or black; the carver chair is also made on a central pedestal and on a base on castors.

On INTEBEE the pieces of this collection can be added to a spec sheet with their official images and dimensions, and every revision of the specification is kept in one place for the project team and suppliers.
