Origin
The Sideways series is a family of four pieces by the Danish designer Rikke Frost for Carl Hansen & Søn. It starts with the RF1903 Sideways Sofa, which the manufacturer calls award-winning. The other pieces are described in relation to it: the lounge chair as an extension to the sofa, the footstool as an addition to the series that expands the sofa's functions, and the coffee table as echoing the series' soft curves and its material combinations.
Design Language
The pages speak of soft, organic shapes across the series. The sofa and the chair share a steam-bent solid wood backrest with woven paper cord, and both are upholstered in textile. The footstool combines a wooden frame with a soft textile cover, and the table pairs a wooden frame with a reversible top on brass brackets. The chair, footstool and table pages each present their piece as suited to private or residential and public settings. Re-wool 0218 is listed on the chair and the footstool, Baru 0780 on the sofa and the footstool, and Hallingdal 116 on the sofa and the footstool.
