起源
据 Knoll 介绍，Warren Platner 于 1962 年向其提出了这一构想，该系列专为 Knoll 设计，并于 1966 年问世；此后一直持续生产。Platner 是一位建筑师，在自立门户之前，曾与 Raymond Loewy、Eero Saarinen 和贝聿铭（I. M. Pei）合作。
设计语言
Platner 希望打造装饰感柔和、优雅的家具，其风格类似路易十五时期的洛可可风格，但不依赖附加装饰，而是以更具理性的结构为基础。Knoll 的宣传手册称，他将结构设计为装饰细节本身即是功能性构件：弯曲的立式钢棒焊接于圆形框架之上，一把椅子上的焊点超过一千个。2015 年，系列中新增了 18k 金饰面款式。
