Collection Story

Origin

Fredericia's J39 Chair page groups three items: the J39 Mogensen Chair, a version with an upholstered seat and a leather seat pad. Børge Mogensen drew the J39 for FDB in 1947, and Fredericia's journal calls it the People's Chair.

Design Language

Fredericia describes the J39 as a simplification of Kaare Klint's Church Chair of 1936: Mogensen replaced the four horizontal back slats with one gently curved backrest and made the back legs fully vertical.
