Collection Story

Origin

Grant is Simon Legald's 2018 lighting series for Normann Copenhagen. Its starting point is granite with a thunder grey mineral mélange, an igneous stone that Normann Copenhagen sets against polished metals. The design arises from an interplay between high shine and dusty granular depth. The range covers lamps for wall mounting, ceiling, floor and table, and it is offered in two colour options, brass and black, each combined with granite.

Design Language

The lampshades have a dense rounded silhouette inspired by Copenhagen's iconic street lighting, and they meet slender arms in soft and airy compositions. Normann Copenhagen points to the familiarity of the simple shapes and the poised stature, and to unbroken curves and an unusual mix of materials that give the design a modern lucidity and immediate freshness.

Light and Construction

All the lamps use an LED light source behind a dispersion lens, which gives a soft light; the low-energy LED is replaceable and held in place by small brass finger screws. The pendants can be hung high without blinding. The floor lamp, table lamp and wall lamps come with a dimmer switch, while the pendants are dimmer compatible. A ball joint on the table and floor lamps lets the shade point in diverse directions. The wall lamps swing across roughly 180 degrees and their shades tip up and down.

Materials and Cords

The lamps are made of brass plated steel or black plated steel together with granite. Each pendant has a black textile cord of 4 m and a black canopy. The table lamp and the floor lamp each have a black textile cord of 2 m with a switch, while the wall lamps have a black textile cord of 4 m with a switch.
