Collection Story

Origin

The A 1700 is Thonet's table programme for conferences, meetings and executive offices. Its Evo generation was developed for the seminar, conference and training segments, with modern media technology as a key concern. Uwe Sommerlade designed the programme's tables and legs.

Design Language

The programme works like a building-block system in which a few components make up any configuration, and the basic module is a single tabletop on four legs. Legs set at the outer edges of the top are drop-shaped and show a narrow edge to the outside, replacing the former oval profile. A second base, the T-leg, is a curved cast aluminium foot stabiliser with two leg tubes, set at the centre of the top to leave legroom. Fittings are set flush in the tops, and the media ports match the table's finish or veneer figure.

Key Pieces

The A 1700 leg evo is the programme's table with drop-shaped legs. An assembly assistant lets one person build and take down large table systems, and a tabletop trolley moves the tops.
