Overview
Rope Chair is Ronan & Erwan Bouroullec's 2020 armchair for Artek. A steel-tube frame is joined by flexible rope that supports the back and arms.

Construction
The seat is form-pressed beech plywood with an ash-veneer surface. The rope is flax or polyester, depending on the version. The page lists two coordinated material versions.

故事
A line in space
Artek describes Rope Chair as a line drawing translated into three dimensions. Rigid steel tubes establish the outline, while the rope introduces movement and changes under load.
The sitter completes the shape
The marine-use rope is a weight-bearing part of the construction. Artek says it adapts to the person sitting and retains a trace of the supported body after the sitter rises.
