Plain Side Table

Overview

Designed by Antonio Citterio in 2003, Plain is a compact tray table made to stand beside or in front of a sofa. Its geometric C-shaped profile keeps the top cantilevered from a narrow upright.

Construction

Flexform specifies a metal frame entirely covered in hide leather. The same official schedule also includes four suede choices. All fourteen named coverings apply to the same documented model code.

The single documented model, code 011W70, measures 43 cm wide, 34 cm deep and 53 cm high.

Form and function

Flexform describes Plain through the union of a direct geometric outline and a practical tray-table role. The top, vertical panel and floor plate read as one continuous C-shaped volume, with the metal structure concealed by its outer covering.

A material-led surface

Rather than adding separate decorative elements, the design gives the covering responsibility for the visible character of the piece. Flexform lists ten hide colours and four suede options for this single compact size.
