Outdoor sofa

Palinfrasca is Vincent Van Duysen's outdoor sofa interpretation of a 1994 work by Luca Meda. Molteni&C describes solid-teak structures, curved enveloping lines and a broad warp-and-weft treatment as the identifying elements of the range.

Construction

The datasheet specifies a painted stainless-steel base with plastic ferrules and a solid-teak structure in a natural finish. Seat inserts use shaped polyurethane in different densities, enclosed by waterproof polyester fibre; back cushions contain polyester fibre with the same waterproof covering. The woven bands are teak coupled with EVA polyurethane, or olive-green EVA polyurethane.

The stored straight sofa is 185 × 98 cm, with a largest vertical value of 67 cm. That value is not labelled with an axis on the drawing.

A dialogue with Luca Meda

Molteni&C presents Van Duysen's sofa as a contemporary response to Luca Meda's 1994 work. Rather than reproducing that earlier piece as a dated replica, the page emphasizes the way teak and large-scale weaving are reinterpreted through the company's material research.
