Overview
Roberto Lazzeroni’s Martha armchair pairs a sinuous open shell with a curved backrest that appears suspended above it. The seat slopes slightly rearward, and a removable cushion completes the upholstered interior.
Construction
The two-part shell is moulded rigid polyurethane. Soft moulded polyurethane, polyester wadding and polyurethane foam form the inner back, seat and cushion. A triangular-section trestle and four legs are made from solid ash.

故事
A shell that stays open
Poltrona Frau describes Martha as almost a capsule: it receives and protects without closing in. Lazzeroni forms the seat and armrests as one outward-opening line, then holds the softly curved back above the shell with a concealed attachment.
Contrast as a design tool
The design deliberately places a firm outer casing against a softer inner surface. Hand-finished visible stitching marks the meeting of those materials, while the ash support keeps the upholstered volume clear of the floor.
