Overview
The Eames Rectangular Coffee Table gives the Eames molded-plywood table a long rectangular plan. It is a 1946 design by Charles and Ray Eames.
Construction
The table combines a three-ply laminate or veneer top with curved molded-plywood legs. The official range pairs laminate surfaces with contrasting veneer edges and bases, or uses veneer across the top, edges, and base.
Specifications
The representative 48-inch model is 22 in wide, 48 in deep, and 14 in high. A shorter 36-inch version is also listed by the official store.
Histoire
An extension of molded plywood
Herman Miller presents the rectangular table as part of Charles and Ray Eames's continuing work with molded plywood. Its legs use the shaping method that grew from the pair's experiments with lightweight veneer and compound curves.
A later rectangular expression
The manufacturer describes this model as a new rectangular shape for the established molded-plywood coffee-table idea. The current assortment retains the curved base while offering two top lengths and combinations of laminate, walnut, ebony, and white ash.
