Background
Luigi Caccia Dominioni (1913–2016) was an Italian architect, urbanist and designer. After graduating from the Milan Polytechnic in 1936, he opened a Porta Nuova studio with Livio and Pier Giacomo Castiglioni and worked across interiors, industrial design, competitions and exhibition installations.
Signature Style
B&B Italia presents him as an interpreter of Milanese and Lombard tradition who continually tested the relationship between modernity and inherited forms. His post-war work also contributed to the architectural redefinition of Milan.
Notable Works
His Milan projects include apartment blocks on Via Ippolito Nievo, the San Felice district and the redevelopment of Piazza San Babila. The manufacturer identifies the Catilina armchair (1957) as his best-known design and lists Nonaro among his current products.
Legacy
Caccia Dominioni received Compasso d'Oro recognition for the Sedia T12 Palini and the Super door, as well as a career award for his contribution to Italian design. B&B Italia also recalls his radio units with the Castiglioni brothers at Milan's seventh Triennale.
