起源
ID Chair 概念是安东尼奥·奇泰里奥（Antonio Citterio）为Vitra设计的模块化办公椅系统，于2010年推出，Vitra家族页面上标注的时间为2010/2026。奇泰里奥自1988年起与Vitra合作，他将这一理念概括为一个面向多种椅子的概念，而非单一座椅。Vitra的杂志称其为该品牌最畅销的办公椅。
设计语言
靠背决定了型号，而机构、扶手、座椅和底座则为共用部件。提供两种机构选择：专利的FlowMotion，以及可根据使用者体重自动调节的AutoMotion。坐垫采用V-Foam材料，这是与BASF共同开发的可回收聚氨酯泡沫，部分配置可实现100%可回收。苏黎世联邦理工学院（ETH Zurich）的一项研究发现，这把椅子的活动范围得到了充分利用。
