– BASIC DATA –

Project Name Park Hyatt Kyoto
Year of Project 2019
Project Type Hotel Design
Country Japan
Design Style Asian, Authentic, Classic, Cultual, Japanese, Modern

– DESCRIPTION OF THE PROJECT –

A new Park Hyatt has opened in Kyoto, Japan in 2019 October. This is the second Park Hyatt in Japan.

Tony Chi has been appointed as an interior designer together with a Japanese design&engineering firm, Takenaka Corporation.

The hotel is located in Higashiyama hills, where is very historical district with many world heritage sites are located around, including Kiyomizu-temple.

As you can see, the building of this Park Hyatt is following the traditional Japanese architecture design in the district.

It offers modern interpretation of Japanese guesthouse and hospitality. It also focus on the culture and craftsmanship.

While it respects the tradition, Tony Chi beautifully added the modern elements – like walnut furniture, oak flooring, metal framing, or lightings.

In the room, you can have the view of Japanese garden or Kyoto town.
Some rooms have the own garden.
This quite and relaxing room setting has interesting mix of modern and tradition – it used many of fragrant Tamo wood to welcome the guest with its scent, modern furniture with quilting cushion which reminds us of Japanese bedding, or the simplified traditional screen. It shows the respect of local culture and tradition. Unlike the other Park Hyatt, this one is more like a hiding place.
